According to Sports Illustrated, Vince McMahon and other WWE officials were “blown away” by the social media numbers for Ultimate Deletion featuring Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt. The match hashtag was trending worldwide at number one for over three hours, which could point to a future for the Woken Matt Hardy gimmick in WWE and other matches similar to Ultimate Deletion.
With regards to Michael Cole’s line before the match apologizing to fans for what they were about to see, that line was very likely fed to Cole by Vince McMahon himself as Vince had no idea what to expect from the match, which aired in the main event slot on Raw.
As for what comes next, there is a future for Hardy’s “Woken” world in WWE, as he reportedly fought hard to make Ultimate Deletion a reality on WWE programming.
