The “Billion Dollar Princess” Stephanie McMahon returned to Monday Night Raw this week to drop an absolute BOMBSHELL of an announcement. On January 28th, live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, for the first time in history the women of WWE will compete in their very own Royal Rumble match!
Stephanie interrupted an all-out brawl between the Raw women’s roster and the members of Paige’s Absolution faction, before going into the history of the “Women’s Revolution” that removed the phrase “Divas” from the WWE vocabulary forever. While no names have been announced, it was made clear that both members of the Raw and Smackdown rosters will compete in the women’s Royal Rumble bout, and if it’s anything like the 30 other men’s Rumble matches we’ve had over the years, you can expect some exciting surprises.
This year alone WWE has already taken huge steps forward for the women in their company. 2017 saw the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match (followed shortly by the second), as well as the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament that saw 32 women from all around the world compete exclusively on the WWE Network.
