“You should be ashamed to show your face around here.” Those were the words that greeted the Sunshine State’s Republican governor when he ventured into a local Starbucks on Tuesday.
The hostile interaction came in response to his controversial decision to cut state funding for Planned Parenthood, with the woman adding, “you’re an asshole!” The video has already been viewed more than 200,000 times since being posted yesterday.
Local station WFTS identified the woman as Cara Jennings, a 39-year-old stay at home mom, and she had more to say to the 63-year-old then he was probably expecting while venturing out amongst his constituents for a latte. She told the station afterward that she had been reading about Scott’s budget cuts when he walked in. “I didn’t tink about whether I should do it or not,” she said. “I thought, ‘Here’s my chance to tell the governor how I feel about the horrible bill.’”
“You cut Medicaid, so I couldn’t get Obamacare! You’re an asshole!” she said, in remarks carried by the station. “You don’t care about working people.”
The governor, who recently endorsed Donald Trump for president, briefly pushed back against Jennings’ barrage, telling her she “should” be able get a good job and touting his claim to have created a million jobs in the state since being elected in 2011. However, his defense wasn’t mounted for long, with Jennings responding:
“A million jobs? Who here has a great job or is looking forward to finishing school? Do you really feel like you have a job coming up?” The verbal onslaught proved too much for the governor, who reportedly left the shop muttering, “Maybe you should try and say the truth,” with a forced grin on his face and his entourage in tow but without his cup of coffee.
Not everyone in the shot appeared to agree with Jennings’ decision to loudly yell at the governor but she at least won the approval of the unidentified man shooting the video who simply responded, “sweet” after Scott excited the building.
