Green says there’s a higher percentage Leonard re-signs | Sporting News

Danny Green thinks the Raptors have a strong chance to re-sign Kawhi Leonard.

Toronto won the championship this season after it acquired Leonard, along with Green, in a blockbuster trade with the Spurs last summer. Leonard is set to be a free agent and has been linked to the Clippers, Knicks and Lakers, amongst others, but Green said recently he believes Toronto is the front-runner to keep the star.

“I don’t know the percentage (of chance that Leonard stays),” Green said during Hoops Talk, via Sportsnet. “But I think it’s a higher percentage for him to be here than to leave.”

Leonard almost singlehandedly carried the Raptors to their first title in franchise history. He averaged 30.5 points in the playoffs, was named the Finals MVP and helped the team avoid elimination by knocking down a crazy bouncing buzzer beater in the fourth quarter of Game 7 against the 76ers in the second round.

“The city, the fans have done their job, the organization’s done their job. It’s going to be a hard place (for Leonard) to turn down,” Green said. “(You) have a great team and have a city, people, fans that love you and are willing to give you almost everything. … They give you everything, the world, and then some.”

Green, meanwhile, shot a career-high 45.5% from 3-point point range on 5.4 attempts per game during the regular season. He’ll also be a free agent this summer.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Green said during a radio interview earlier this month. “I would like to be back in Toronto and hopefully get everybody to run it back again. When you have a group like that, it’s special.”

Leonard and Green won a championship together with the Spurs in 2013-14, as well.
