The price of petrol in Mumbai crossed the Rs 90 mark on Monday (Rs 90.08 per litre), the highest in the country’s metros. In that category, Hyderabad, at Rs 87.7, was closest to Mumbai; Delhi was the cheapest, at Rs 82.72.
The price of petrol in 32 cities and towns of Maharashtra is now over Rs 90 per litre, the highest (in the country) being at Nanded—Rs 91.66. Interestingly, Thane and Navi Mumbai, though in the immediate neighbourhood of Mumbai, have the lowest petrol price in the state—Rs 89.71.

In Mumbai, diesel too has reached a new high—Rs 78.58 per litre. Diesel comprises 65% of transportation costs and may result in the prices of essential commodities going up, warned transporters.
