The NXT Takeover: WarGames event just concluded on the WWE Network, and the event marked another well-received show for the NXT brand. Not only did the event feature the titular WarGames match, but Johnny Gargano vs. Aleister Black, the NXT Championship match, and the NXT Women’s Championship match have all received praise from fans as well. Although WWE’s NXT Takeover shows usually feature approximately five matches on the card, today’s event curiously only had four bouts on the show. Most assumed that this was done to give the matches on the card plenty of extra time, but somehow, WWE still found a way to keep the traditional amount of matches alive for the NXT Takeover event today.

When NXT Takeover: WarGames kicked off today, new NXT Superstar Matt Riddle made his unannounced Takeover debut and called out his rival, Kassius Ohno. Riddle acknowledged that the two of them were not supposed to fight until NXT this Wednesday, but he wanted the two of them to settle their differences right then and there. Ohno appeared and warned Riddle not to step in the ring with him, but once the bell rung, Riddle shocked everybody by immediately hitting a knee strike to get his first win at an NXT Takeover all in under one minute. Despite the quick victory from Matt Riddle, it seems incredibly likely that the real feud between these two NXT standout competitors has only just begun.

Although he received a brutal and noticeable pectoral injury during his match at Crown Jewel earlier this month, Triple H wasn’t about to let that stop him from attending WWE’s Survivor Series festivities in Los Angeles, California this weekend. Sure enough, “The Game” was indeed backstage to produce NXT Takeover: WarGames tonight. The former world champion uploaded photos of himself meeting with NXT officials Matt Bloom, Shawn Michaels, Sara Amato, and others while sporting a cast on his arm. Triple H also took part in a live press conference after Takeover came to an end. Given that he still worked on tonight’s show despite the injury, that may be a good indicator that he will be backstage for Survivor Series tomorrow as well.
