Stories have been running through the internet all week now that WWE cruiserweight Austin Aries is looking at taking a hiatus from wrestling due to some nagging injuries. At first, Aries stated that he would consider it, but then stated later on that he was not going to be doing so at the moment. It appears that Austin Aries may have suffered some grueling injuries that he may not have thought were too serious, but may have unexpectedly worsened over time. Either way, we now know that “The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived” will not be competing on Raw or 205 Live for at least the next few weeks.
Aries appeared on 205 Live recently to address the crowd, and he confirmed that he will indeed be stepping away from in-ring action for the time being to heal his injuries. He stated that he is not currently medically cleared to compete for WWE. Tony Nese came out and interrupted the segment until the “Extraordinary Gentleman” Jack Gallagher sent Nese away. Austin Aries returned from a previous eye injury back in March, and he has been feuding with Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship ever since. His recent loss at Extreme Rules made it the third consecutive loss against Neville in a row for Aries.
Austin Aries has been wrestling all over the world since 2004, so it makes sense that he would have a few injuries as a result, but they have hindered his WWE career somewhat. Fellow cruiserweight Akira Tozawa appears to be the next challenger for Neville’s title, but he may be just a placeholder until Aries returns to the company. No word on how long Aries will be gone for, but in the meantime, he will be off promoting his new book entitled Foodfight: My Plant-Powered Journey from the Bingo Halls to the Big Time. Here’s hoping that Aries will heal all of his injuries, have a speedy recovery and will be back in action better than ever very soon.
