The Lawcast – Wrestlemania 18 Has So Much To Talk About, We Almost Had To Break It Into 2 Shows

Welcome, boys and girls, to another episode of the Lawcast! This week we begin our greatest and most hallowed tradition here at Lawcast University, as we start our own road to Wrestlemania. If you’re a new listener, what we do is we cover as many Wrestlemanias as we can in chronological order until we get to actual Wrestlemania in April. Over the past few years we’ve covered all 17 of the other shows and now we’re ready to take on a slate of arguably the wildest, most chaotic, and most important Wrestlemanias of all time.

First up we have Wrestlemania 18. The business has changed forever. This is the first major show after the enormous failure of the Invasion, and the subsequent debut of Ric Flair and the NWO. This is the first Wrestlemania in a world that WWE truly owns and comes at the end of a year that was equal parts incredible and mind numbingly awful. This show brings you all of that, with some matches that are hard to believe ever took place (Hogan vs. Rock) and some that never should have taken place (Jericho vs. Triple H) and even some that our lives never would have been complete without seeing (Maven vs. Goldust).

The business has changed. But is it for the better? Let’s find out.

Hey guys! If you haven’t joined our the Lawcast Patreon yet, here’s a look at what’s new:

We now have SIX bonus episodes available to our donors, including a look at the rarely seen original pilot of Smackdown, an episode of So You Think You Can? where Steve is forced to try to fix the many, many issues with Starrcade 97, and we just released an episode of The 90s Sports podcast, something that started as a joke, but that people actually gave us money because they wanted to listen to it. You guys are weird and we love you. We also have an episode where Cewsh takes his turn in the booking chair and will try to fix the calamitous mess of ECW December to Dismember. We also have a recap of the past decade in wrestling, with a focus on the big picture stuff. How did WWE go from a monopoly to having actual competition? What sparked the women’s revolution? What caused New Japan to become the freight train it is today? And what does the next decade hold in store?

Out latest bonus episode is a State of the Wrestling Industry Address, where we look at what is working and not working in modern wrestling, and try to predict its future.

So come on. Think of it as hiring us for a job where you only pay us $2.50 an hour. I’m pretty sure that’s not even legal, but we’ll just keep it between us.

Also, we have finally found a way to meet the request that we get the most often, and we finally now have a full archive for the Lawcast where you can go and listen to us talk about Sid for nearly 100 episodes. In the future we’ll have playlists up there to make it easier to navigate, but for now we’ve got the whole deal there for the taking. Enjoy!
